BOLT003: Remembrance e.p.
Release date: 26th March 2004
CD and Digital
This EP is Zainetica's memorial to a friend who died when they were both fourteen. A reminder to never forget them and members of their family who died in a televised national disaster. To remind him how the newspapers and other media treated grieving families.
These sounds are Zainetica's emotions recorded down to disk, his remembering of those days and how they have affected people close to him ever since. One man's forgetfulness caused thousands of people pain, grief and incomprehension at life forever.
"How can you ever let it be; I will never forget. This is a remembrance."

"Bolt003 was reserved for Zainetica (Rednetic Recordings) who offers the mechanically entrancing Remembrance EP. The title tracks plucks its way through distant guitar moments and acute attention to soft beats. An ambient world groove is present on "Why," perhaps considered to be the downbeat highlight of this EP. And rightly so. On "Resurrection" an amateur, instrumental beat flourishes in a sea of analog synths, but it simply doesn't want to grow --instead we're left with a dizzying reflection of melancholy moments. Closing up this 20-minute affair is the elegantly romantic electronics of "Something to Remember You By." The pleasant soft-funk of this piece compliments "Why" in such a way that I'd say the two would make a great 7-inch release on Ninja Tune. " Read the whole review/feature

"With all the loud furor over illegal downloading of music on the internet that sees major labels suing 10-year olds and Metallica trying to prosecute their own fans, it’s nice to see the little guys going with the flow. Boltfish are a tiny not-for-profit label specializing in atmospheric electronic music. You can’t buy their releases as they are only available as free MP3s from their website www.boltfish.co.uk . Their latest release is a four-track EP from Zainetica, London based producer Mark Streatfield. The tracks on ‘Remembrance’ were recorded as a memorial to a friend who died in an unspecified disaster though they are not weighed down in melodrama. The highlight is ‘Why’, whose opening tribal beats are co-opted by more mechanical rhythms, while a sweet electronic melody competes with mournful strings. The title track is a sparse piece of ambient hip-hop with an initially insistent beat that goes nowhere in particular, while ‘Resurrection’ features minimal broken beats and tantalising glimpses of dub. If you like your breaks spare and moody check out Zainetica now."
